Shopping malls have opened up eco friendly floors, hotels are racing for the eco friendly brand, actors are competing as to who is eco friendlier, large to small corporations are turning their processes green, greener and greenest. So you know, the trend is to be green. It is the latest fad and whether you are in for the cause or not if you are fashion conscious, you will have to adopt a green lifestyle! Though green is boring for many a youngster and only means rules and more rules, being green can actually be fun if you know the right way to do it.
Reduce, reuse and recycle. This is the mantra of a green lifestyle. Any one following a green lifestyle will tell you to reuse or recycle all the old stuff in your house. Now you might remember that old rule of fashion that manifests itself every once in a while: old is new! Take out all the old clothes you have stuffed in the attic and view them with a critical eye. Yes, the boyfriend jacket is back in vogue (probably never gone) and so is the garden party dress. Cool summer clothes that you have discarded for slinkier lycras can be put back on. There, you have already taken baby steps towards green lifestyle with these exciting new-old additions to you wardrobe.
This year fashion week held a green week showing the works of designers who are hundred percent eco friendly. So what did these designers have to showcase? The green designers produced garments made of hundred percent organic cloth or recycled cloth and patterns. Vegetable dyes have become the norm as well and this type of clothing is being accepted worldwide claiming to be more eco friendly than any garment you can imagine.
Make your green lifestyle known to your friends. Take them out shopping when you go scouting for the latest green products! Many people do not know of the great many things you can get in the eco friendly sections. Another tip for your reduce-reuse-recycle formula is to bring together all your friends and host a swapping party. Imagine a huge group of friends ready with all the wares they no longer need. Those felt curtains that do not go with one friend’s color scheme can be a huge plus to yours. All the clothes that your formally thin friend grew out of can be a boon to your wardrobe! And different people have different tastes and swapping can be fun because your friends might have just the thing you wanted and they didn’t!

Thinking Green, A Creative Game

Eco lifestyle can be not only profitable in regards to finances, it can also be fun and creative. One of the biggest problems to my opinion as to why green life and green thinking gains new followers so slowly, is because we take it way too seriously. When things are serious and at times even boring, people stop living fun and stop being creative. Just imagine if you could turn eco friendly lifestyle into a fun game?

How can it be done? It’s not too difficult. Just turn it into a game of looking for let’s say waste problems and finding the best and easiest solutions for them. Let’s take a look at water waste, for instance. Most people hate to think about water waste in their toilets. It’s not a fun thing to ponder. And, it is not fun to be covering the bill for the water you simply waste. But, somebody did take a look at this problem and came up with an easy, cheap and very efficient solution: dual flush conversion kit. It takes less than an hour to install this kit on your toilet and you immediately start saving water and money, and stop wasting it flushing it literally down the toilet.

So, my idea is this – get creative. Stop considering such little life trivia too seriously and allow yourself to think: what if? This can be fun. Turning on your green thinking you may be able to come up with some great and unexpected ideas and solutions. In fact, the guys who invented the dual flush toilet conversion kit have turned it into their business and now their fun and creativity is converted for them in solid income!

Off Worth Avenue to Save Water

Yesterday I had my normal fun day, a lovely lunch with my girlfriends and a shopping trip down Worth Ave. I stopped into Lily Holt for a quick run around the store, you know a girl's best friend is a good pair of shoes. I did have my first real Green project to do and it was on my mind. I want to build a green, environmentally friendly lifestyle without going off the edge crazy like dressing in a hemp or not taking a shower for days just to save water.

My first project is to change my home toilets out to a Dual Flush Toilet. I have understood that this will save a lots of water and it starts me on the green path without a change to my daily habits. I am not a super handy girl but I can do some things around the house, thanks daddy. So I can save money for more shoes I decided to buy a Dual Flush Toilet Conversion Kit from SelectAFlush over new toilets that cost over $400. I bought two SelectAFlush kits each cost me just under $30.00 and their web site said I could install them on a front facing handle toilet in an hour. I went over to my dads and showed him what I was going to do, he smiled and let me use some of his tools..."Do you want me to do it for you" he said. "No, I want to try, it is my first major step to my green quest." I said "OK, call me if you need me" he said.

I started the install around 3:00 and around 4:30 I was done, without dad, the toilet worked great all went well. I had a new toilet, I was saving water and I can walk with some pride that I am making a difference however small you might think it is a change for the better. I am not sure what I am going to do for my next Green change but I will let you know. I can tell you this, I am going to spread the word...I feel great!

Feel free to follow me on twitter: @meganshoee

until then, Meg
